Don’t put off what you can do today

The winter months are quickly approaching, and I’m hoping that you’ll have a warm, cozy season in your home!  In fact, I’m including with this message some quick tips for making sure that you and your  home are ready for the winter months ahead!  I hope that you find these tips to be helpful and useful.

Roof repairs: If you can safely get onto your roof to inspect for missing shingles or other factors that may lead to a leaky roof, now’s the time to do it!  If not, call in a professional organization and have them take care of the rooftop work for you.

Seal it off: Inspect doors and windows to ensure that the weather-stripping is in good condition.  This will keep your house warmer and cozier in the winter months.

Hot stuff: Make sure that your heater and ventilation systems are in good working order!  Clean out accessible ducts and replace filters where necessary.

Chimney sweep: Creosote, a black substance that builds up in the chimney when wood is burned, can cause chimney fires.  Inspect your chimney for creosote and call a chimney sweep to keep your fireplace safe and functional.

Gutter check: Now’s the time to clean out those rain gutters again!  If you want to do it yourself, make sure that you can safely access the gutters and then scoop out any debris, blast the drains clean with a high-powered hose, and repair any leaks you may find along the way.

Let’s Get Cookin!

net·work·ing  [net-wur-king]

1.  a supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals and groups having a common interest: Example: Working mothers in the community may use networking to help themselves manage successfully.

My version of the meaning of networking would expand just a bit further, possibly in the format of a recipe…

Networking a’ la mode

Add the following:

  • Individuals
  • Bushels of common interests
  • Gallons of new friendships
  • Pounds of sharing
  • Quarts of new ideas (As many as you want)
  • A few bottles of wine

Wrap the above in a support system, mix with good conversation and top with laughter

*NOTE:  This recipe goes a long way, feeds many, and after consumption, you will feel… full filled!

National Get Outdoors Day

Minnesota’s State Parks are offering free admission on Saturday, June 11, 2011 to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day.  All 74 State Parks, including Charles Lindbergh and Crow Wing State Park will waive the requirement for vehicle permits for Saturday.  So, take a hike, go fishing, kayaking, just enjoy the great outdoors!

This is a GREAT time to buy a home!

Despite the gloom and doom about the housing market stated on most of the major network news, now IS a good time to buy a house.

Now IS a Good Time to Buy a House in Northern Virginia

Why? Low, low interest rates, a historic glut of homes, rising rental prices, the number of new households per year, a decline in home building – all these factors contribute to a very healthy buyers market.
